"Victor Davies has always possessed a beautiful voice: svelte, yearning, suffused in soul-jazz emotion - a home-grown answer to the likes of Jon Lucien (whose classic 'Would You Believe in Me' he covers here - brave move!).
Having first come across him a good few years back on Bougie Soliterre's old imprint this reviewer has waited for him to cross over into general consciousness, and 'Hear the Sound' could just be the album to do it.
It's all easy, laidback vibes as Bebel Gilberto joins the party on 'Comigo' which swings like Robinho sashaying down Ipanema, whilst 'One More Time' could seduce the coffee table crowd with ease.
It's a sophisticated, Afro/Brazilian-inspired listen, but if, say, Zero 7 can cross over then there's no reason why Victor Davies can't do the same. * * * * "
