Hey all!!! This thread is for you to tell us what performers, musicians and/or bands you've seen recently. Let us know about the show and whether or not you'd recommend we go see them if they came to our city. Thanks!!!

Ames!!! That is going to be some show!!! When is it? We'd love to hear all about it, so please fill us in afterwards...ok? Don't laugh...but we're trying to get tickets to see Peter Frampton and Lynyrd Skynyrd on Thursday night. They are doing a free concert to honor the 5th anniversary of a classic rock radio station here in Chicago. You have to win the tickets. I love Framption...and how fun would it be to hear Sweet Home Alabama and Freebird live?!!!!

I went to see Kyoto Jazz Massive's live show at the Jazz Cafe last week... it was great! It's the first time they've done a live set (usually they're DJs & producers) so it was really exciting. Yoshi Okino plus 5 Japanese band members and 3 UK vocalists including the ubiquitous Vanessa Freeman. Highly recommended show! Another Japanese band, Soil & Pimp, are at the Jazz Cafe tonight. I might go but it depends if I win tickets in the competition or can get in free some other way!

I won the tickets for Soil & Pimp Sessions!! Great show! When you've got a trumpet player dressed like an old school jazz man, a saxophonist dressed like an old school rapper (think early LL Cool J!), and a front man dressed like a pimp you know it's gonna be a good one! These guys are already huge in Japan and are the next big thing in the nu-jazz scene in Europe having signed to Compost Records and Gilles Petersen's new label so you're sure to hear of them soon if you haven't already.

Saw Sergio Mendes at the Barbican tonight. What a legend! Played some of the new stuff (unfortunately no live appearances from the guests on the album tho) and loads of the old stuff from 1966 Mendes must have done about 5 encores - no exaggeration! - including Mas Que Nada twice(!) which was amazing. Something I can tick off my list of things to do or see before I die. If you're into percussion there was a whole section dedicated to the demonstration of different Brazilian percussion instruments such as the berimbau and cuica. I thought it was cool but probably went on a bit too long for the average non-musician. I'm giving this one a cool 9/10.

WOW That sounds awesome! Why oh WHY doesn't America (well anywhere I'm usually at) have more JAZZ concerts? We do have a great club called "Blues Central" which actually has more Jazz bands than blues!! go figure.. I usually have to DRAG hubby cuz I love going - and when he goes he always comes home going "MAN that was GREAT" ... he loves the Jazz guitar! Something tells me Victor wouldn't come ALL the way to Alaska just to play in a TINY bar? But I sure would hook him up!! LOL We have other clubs too tho!... but Alaska is so far away from any other tour-type spots

Are you referring to the new album with the collaborations on it with Black Eyed Peas, John Legend...? It's fun...but I love the older stuff too!!! Mas Que Nada twice? i16.photobucket.com/albums/b18/amyedie6196/smileys/bravo.gif [/img] i16.photobucket.com/albums/b18/amyedie6196/smileys/bravo.gif [/img]

Yeah it was great! Only downside was that the audience was way too English, i.e. happy to cheer but too scared to get up and dance. Had to wait til the encore before people got out of their seats so it was a good thing there were so many encores! I saw Seu Jorge in concert last year and was worried that the audience would be the same so I was thrilled to turn up and find that the majority of the crowd was Brazilian! The Brazilians aren't shy so that was a fun show! ;D The only thing is that if I'm to keep seeing all these Brazilian artists I really must learn to samba. I don't think my random jiggling really cuts it...

I'd love to see some pics if you ever manage to get him to go ;D Dance lessons are great. Me and my best friend took some jazz dance lessons together a few years back. It didn't improve our dancing very much but it did provide hours of laughter for our partners when we tried to show off our new moves later on! They haven't let us forget it since let me tell you!
